So, using your ruler, you want to use the same size as the previous blocks to determine the scale of the next larger one.

If you don’t want to turn your page you can also imagine drawing each next perfect square in an anti-clockwise format.

By now you will have found that you have three blocks, a larger one, and two smaller ones. This is already an example of the golden ratio at its most basic form, whereby the result is a set of perfect squares within a perfect rectangle that encompasses them all.

We want to continue for the sake of creating the golden spiral, so using your ruler and pencil proceed with the formula.

Again, if you stick to the same scale of blocks and work in an anti-clockwise direction, the previous blocks will have been set up both in number and block the number of blocks needed for the next square.

As you continue clockwise around the set of blocks, you will find that the previous set of blocks establishes the exact amount for the next square.

Essentially, we are drawing a set of perfect squares in a circle that get larger and larger, determined by the number sequence.

Again, you must remember that you are working with the same set measurement of blocks each time. As long as you keep the same measurements, the squares and rectangles will be perfect or, as it is said, golden.

Make sure you take your time with each block as you build up the golden ratio rectangle. Being as precise as possible with your lines being straight and measurements on a point will result in a beautiful Fibonacci spiral.

As you continue in your anti-clockwise movement of building each new square, you will start to know that something strange is occurring. For the spiral to be perfect, you must work anti-clockwise whilst, in theory, the page turns clockwise.

As you go through each square, working in a clockwise motion, you should find that it is not a perfect circle. Rather we are drawing an orbital motion that shortens in distance every time it makes a circular motion.

As you adjust your compass to the corners of each smaller square make sure you start from the endpoint of the last curve. Every last curve should end at the starting point of the next curve.

Then you readjust your compass for the next curve and so on.

Continue this process until you have reached the last rectangle in which you have drawn your last curved line. You might find that it is a little difficult to draw a curved line in the smaller squares using the compass.

You can freehand it but make sure you take your time and go about it slowly, but at that point, it doesn’t matter.
