Colors That Start With T — Material study

240 Colors That Start With T: HEX, RGB, and Swatches

Color names beginning with T range from familiar web standards such as teal and tomato to imaginative labels found only in creative catalogs. This atlas gives you 240 distinct names with exact six-digit HEX references, matching RGB values, and swatches you can scan quickly. The status labels also show which values are standardized and which are useful digital descriptions rather than official paint or pigment formulas.

T Colors at a Glance

Five opaque CSS named colors begin with T: Tan, Teal, Thistle, Tomato, and Turquoise. These standardized sRGB values are the firmest starting points in the collection. The wider atlas adds 235 creative names, but those catalog associations do not carry the same authority as CSS keywords.

Colors That Start With T

The Five Opaque CSS T Colors

The standardized values are Tan #D2B48C (RGB 210, 180, 140), Teal #008080 (RGB 0, 128, 128), Thistle #D8BFD8 (RGB 216, 191, 216), Tomato #FF6347 (RGB 255, 99, 71), and Turquoise #40E0D0 (RGB 64, 224, 208). Each appears once in the grouped atlas below, where its HEX code controls both the RGB conversion and visible swatch. CSS Color Level 4 defines named colors in sRGB, the standard color space used for these digital references. A broader introduction to hue, saturation, value, and color relationships is available in this guide to basic color theory.

How to Read the Status Labels

  • CSS standard: A standardized named-color keyword with a defined sRGB value.
  • Catalog reference: A curated creative name paired with a useful digital HEX value. It is not an official universal definition.
  • Material or historical term; catalog HEX: The name also describes a physical material or historical color. The displayed code is still a digital catalog reference, not a measured specimen.

Creative color names can be useful references without being standardized. Use the Status column to distinguish CSS keywords from catalog-specific digital associations and names that also carry material or historical meanings.

The Curated T Color Atlas

The 240 entries are grouped into four alphabetic bands for quick scanning. Every row has one controlling six-digit HEX code, an RGB conversion derived from that code, and a matching swatch. Read the CSS rows as standardized web colors and all other rows as catalog-specific digital references.

Ta Through Te

This group moves from pale food-inspired tones and earthy tans to saturated oranges, reds, and blue-greens. Tan and Teal are the two standardized CSS entries in the group.

Why One Color Name Can Point to Different Values

A color name may function as a web standard, a catalog label, a physical-material description, or a proprietary identity. Those categories answer different questions, so the name alone cannot establish one universal value.

Colors That Start With T — Material studyAI-generated editorial illustration; not a measured color sample.

Tan as a Source-Conflict Example

CSS Color Level 4 defines Tan as #D2B48C. A creative color catalog also associates Tan with #D1B26F, a slightly more golden value. Because the standardized keyword has greater authority for web use, #D2B48C controls the Tan row and the catalog association is not added as a duplicate.

This example also explains why two color lists can disagree without either code being a conversion error. One may document a standard, while another records a creative naming choice.

Transparent and Other Special Cases

Transparent begins with T and is a CSS color keyword, but it represents fully transparent black rather than an opaque color. It therefore cannot be represented honestly as one of the six-digit opaque swatches in this atlas.

Names tied to materials or historical use need similar care. The Terracotta and Tyrian Purple rows show catalog-selected screen colors. They do not claim to measure every clay body, dye, pigment, painted surface, or aged artifact carrying those names.

Tiffany Blue and Proprietary Color

Tiffany Blue is familiar, but familiarity does not make an online approximation official. Tiffany states that the color has been a registered color trademark since 1998 and that Pantone created an exclusive custom color called 1837 Blue in 2001. The proprietary formula is not publicly available, so this atlas does not invent an official HEX value or include Tiffany Blue among its coded rows.

Using T Colors in Digital Design

The large table works best as a narrowing tool. Begin with the visual family you need, compare exact swatches, and then test a small set in the intended layout.

Choose by Family and Role

A color wheel can help separate close neighbors from stronger contrasts. Once you have a direction, assign each color a job instead of giving every hue equal visual weight:

  • Cool interface: Use Tame Teal #C1E6DF as the dominant field, Teal #008080 as a supporting color, and Tomato #FF6347 as a restrained accent.
  • Earthy composition: Combine dominant Tapioca #DAC9B9, supporting Terracotta #CB6843, and accent Tahitian Pearl #263644.
  • Quiet neutral scheme: Start with Tundra #D6D9D7, support it with Tiber #184343, and add Turmeric Root #FEAE0D sparingly.

These combinations use temperature and value differences rather than relying on the names alone. If a stronger hue relationship is needed, compare established complementary colors. For restrained backgrounds and supporting tones, review how neutral colors behave beside saturated accents.

Check Text Contrast

Color names do not predict readability. WCAG 2.2 sets a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large-scale text, and a failing result must not be rounded up to the threshold.

Local calculations illustrate the practical difference. White on Teal #008080 reaches 4.77:1 and passes for normal text, while black on the same background reaches only 4.40:1 and fails the 4.5:1 requirement. Black on Tomato #FF6347 reaches 7.13:1, but white reaches only 2.95:1 and even falls short of the large-text threshold. Tan, Thistle, and Turquoise all provide much stronger contrast with black than with white. Always calculate the final foreground and background pair rather than guessing from the swatch.

Test Screens and Physical Materials Separately

The atlas describes digital sRGB colors and intentionally omits unprofiled CMYK percentages. A six-digit screen value alone does not establish how a physical object will appear, so material work should be checked with a physical or instrumentally measured sample under stated lighting conditions.

Lighting changes the apparent color of an object, and instrumental color measurements specify their illumination conditions. Inks and pigments can also change as they age. For those reasons, copying a HEX code into a paint formula cannot guarantee a material match. Treat guides to mixing paint colors as medium-specific practice, not as direct HEX conversion instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

These answers focus on using the atlas accurately when copying, labeling, or comparing its digital color references.

Which Value Should I Copy From an Atlas Row?

Copy the six-digit HEX value because it controls the RGB conversion and visible swatch. Keep the display name and status with the code when sharing the choice so others can see whether it is a CSS standard or a catalog reference.

How Should I Label a Catalog-Only Color?

Write the display name, exact HEX value, and “catalog reference.” This preserves the useful name-value association without suggesting that the name is a standardized CSS keyword or a universal material formula.

Can Two Atlas Rows Use the Same Name or HEX Value?

No. Each of the 240 rows has one distinct display name and one controlling HEX value. When a standardized keyword conflicts with a catalog association, the standardized value controls the single row instead of creating a duplicate.
