Colors That Start With N: 240 Names, HEX and RGB Codes

N opens an unexpectedly broad corner of the color lexicon, from near-black Navy to pale Nyanza and high-energy Neon Green. This curated atlas gathers 240 distinct screen references with copyable HEX and RGB values, visible swatches, and clear status labels. You can also use the tested text pairs to move from an appealing name to a readable design choice.

What Counts as an N Color Name?

Every displayed name in the atlas begins with the letter N, but the labels do not all carry the same authority. Only Navajo White and Navy are standardized CSS named colors beginning with N. Their exact browser tokens are navajowhite and navy.

Colors That Start With N

Most of the remaining entries are creative catalog references. A catalog can attach a useful six-digit HEX value to a name without making that name an official standard. Paint manufacturers also maintain their own product names, while historical nomenclatures document colors in a particular time and material context. Neither kind should be treated as a universal digital definition.

How to Read the Status Labels

CSS keyword means a browser recognizes the exact token and assigns it a standardized value. Catalog reference means the displayed name has a documented digital association, but another catalog or manufacturer may use the same words differently. A familiar name is therefore a label; the HEX value is the numerical instruction for this atlas.

Why HEX Controls the Digital Swatches

A six-digit HEX value uses a hash followed by three two-digit channel pairs: red, green, and blue in sRGB. The RGB numbers and the visible color cell in every row are derived from that HEX value. For example, #F6ADC6 becomes RGB 246, 173, 198.

This consistency makes the rows useful for screen design, but it does not turn them into paint formulas, ink recipes, dye specifications, or measured samples. Those physical outputs depend on materials, profiles, surfaces, and lighting.

Colors That Start With N: 240-Color Atlas

The grouped tables run in alphabetical order. Use the status column to distinguish the two CSS keywords from non-standard catalog names, then copy the HEX value as the controlling screen reference.

N Colors Worth Recognizing

A few entries show why status and numerical value matter as much as the name itself.

Navy and Navajo White

Navy is the CSS keyword navy at #000080. Navajo White is the token navajowhite at #FFDEAD. The readable display name may include a space, but the copyable CSS token does not.

Colors That Start With N — Material studyAI-generated editorial illustration; not a measured color sample.

Navy Blue appears in a catalog at the same #000080 value, so it functions as an alias here rather than a second entry. Counting both would duplicate one digital color.

When the Same Name Has More Than One Value

Non-standard names can vary across catalogs. This atlas uses #FADA5E for Naples Yellow and #D7837F for New York Pink because those are the controlling references selected for these rows. The name alone is not enough to reproduce either color; copy the adjacent HEX value.

What a Catalog Label Does Not Promise

Words such as Neon, Nickel, Nacre, or Non-Photo Blue can sound technical, but a catalog label does not guarantee fluorescent behavior, metallic reflectance, a particular material, or a reproduction result. Treat the swatch as an sRGB target. Check an actual sample or product specification when the project leaves the screen.

How to Use N Colors in Real Projects

Start with the project role, then compare exact values. A memorable name helps a team talk about a choice, but the chosen HEX, surrounding colors, text contrast, and output method determine whether it works.

Choose by Role and Hue Family

A short review of basic color theory can help you separate hue, lightness, and saturation before choosing. The following palettes are starting points for proportion and emphasis, not automatic approvals for text use.

PaletteDominantSupportingAccent
Deep interfaceNavy #000080Navajo White #FFDEADNeon Green #39FF14
Soft editorialNew York Pink #D7837FNon-Photo Blue #A4DDEDNero #252525
Botanical contrastNapier Green #2A8000Naples Yellow #FADA5ENeon Fuchsia #FE4164

Use the dominant color for the largest field, the supporting color for secondary areas, and the accent sparingly. For more structures and exercises, consult the guides to color combinations and complementary colors.

Check Text Contrast With the Exact Pair

WCAG 2.2 calls for at least 4.5:1 contrast for normal text and 3:1 for large text. Large text means at least 18-point regular or 14-point bold. The checks below use opaque sRGB backgrounds paired with pure black or white text.

BackgroundTextContrast ratioWCAG result
Navy #000080#FFFFFF16.01:1Passes normal and large text
Navajo White #FFDEAD#00000016.30:1Passes normal and large text
Neon Green #39FF14#00000015.49:1Passes normal and large text
New York Pink #D7837F#0000007.44:1Passes normal and large text
Non-Photo Blue #A4DDED#00000014.14:1Passes normal and large text
Nero #252525#FFFFFF15.33:1Passes normal and large text
Napier Green #2A8000#FFFFFF5.02:1Passes normal and large text
Naples Yellow #FADA5E#00000015.25:1Passes normal and large text
Neon Fuchsia #FE4164#0000006.15:1Passes normal and large text
Nadeshiko Pink #F6ADC6#00000011.71:1Passes normal and large text
Neon Carrot #FFA343#00000010.57:1Passes normal and large text

All listed pairs clear both thresholds, but any change to the foreground, background, opacity, gradient, or overlay requires another check. Do not use color as the only signal for meaning; add text, an icon, a pattern, or another visible cue.

Screen, Print, and Paint Are Different Outputs

The atlas shows sRGB screen targets. Printers use inks and a device profile, while paper color and finish alter the result. Paint introduces formulation, opacity, surface texture, lighting, and drying behavior. A bright screen value may sit outside a printer’s or paint system’s reproducible range.

Use physical proofs and manufacturer samples for final approval. When working with paint, a guide to mixing colors is more useful than reading RGB channels as ingredient proportions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Use these answers when you need the exact CSS token, want to interpret a catalog label, or need to choose text color for a listed swatch.

Which N Colors Are Valid CSS Keywords?

Only navajowhite at #FFDEAD and navy at #000080 are N-starting CSS color keywords. The spaced form “Navajo White” is a readable display name, not the exact token to paste into CSS.

Is Navy the Same as Navy Blue?

In this atlas, yes. The Navy Blue catalog association and the CSS keyword Navy both use #000080, so Navy Blue is treated as an alias rather than a separate color.

Are the Catalog Names Official?

No. A catalog reference is a documented name-to-HEX association, not a universal standard. Only the rows marked CSS keyword have standardized browser-name status.

Why Can One N Color Name Have Different HEX Values?

Most color names are descriptive rather than standardized. Separate catalogs and product systems can assign different values to the same words. Use the exact HEX beside the chosen entry instead of relying on the name alone.

How Do I Choose Black or White Text?

Calculate contrast between the exact text and background values. Aim for at least 4.5:1 for normal text or 3:1 for large text, and retest after changing opacity, overlays, gradients, or any HEX value.
