Peach Color: A Brief History
The peach is quite popular and has been around for many years. The time that the color name was first documented was back in 1588. The word itself comes from peche, which is Middle French. This word arose from a Latin word, persica, meaning “from Persia”.
However, the peach originally comes from regions in China.
In Chinese culture, the peach is a symbol of immortality, as there is a Taoist legend that tells of The Tree of Immortality, which only blooms every 3000 years. Anybody who finds the tree and eats the fruit at this time will receive immortality. Peaches are also a familiar representation of immortality in Chinese art.

A ripe peach is often also associated not only with immortality but also with good health and fertility. In the painting, The Arnolfini Portrait (1434), done by Flemish artist, Jan Van Eyck, the peaches you can see in the left corner of the painting, are representative of fruitfulness and female fertility. The color trended in the 1920s when tinted peach mirrors were commonly found in luxury hotels, homes as well as nightclubs. Peach was also a favorite in the 1080s. Over the years the peach color has been and still is being used in landscapes, portraits, and abstract art, as well as in many other forms of art and design.
Meaning of the Peach Color
There are many shades of peach, and they all have one thing in common, they are all warm and comforting colors. Peach colors can be reminiscent of spring and summer, sweetness, happiness, and warm-heartedness.
Peach is a friendly, encouraging color, however, it can also be fun, energetic, and inspirational, depending on the tone you use.
You can also consider it a color of serenity and calmness, and a hue that is conducive to communication. Lighter shades of peach are more joyful and are not as energetic or exuberant as vibrant orange or red. Other associations include modesty, innocence, and thoughtfulness.
Mixing Peach Colors With Acrylic Paints
Acrylic paints are quite popular in both creating art and doing hobbies as it is safe and easy to work with. Peachy colors can help with creating skin tones but can also be used for a variety of other purposes. You can easily purchase a ready-made peach color, but many artists prefer to create their own paint colors.
You can place three parts white, three parts yellow, and one part red onto a mixing surface or palette. Mix red and white to get a pink color, and then mix in the yellow to create a peach color. You can also create a peach color by blending orange, red, and white. In this case, the orange will make up the majority, while you add in small amounts of red and then white to lighten the color and achieve the color you want.
Remember, when working with paints, you should rather add small amounts as you go, and you can experiment with the ratios to see what colors you can get.
Shades of Peach in Fashion
Shades of peach in fashion exude a soft, feminine charm that can range from subtle, pastel tones to more vibrant, sunset-like hues. As a versatile color, peach can be effortlessly styled for a variety of occasions, complementing different skin tones and adding a warm glow to any outfit. Here are six delightful color combinations that pair beautifully with peach:
- Peach and navy blue for a sophisticated, nautical-inspired contrast.
- Peach and mint green for a refreshing, springtime look.
- Peach and lilac for a gentle, pastel palette full of whimsy.
- Peach and cream for an elegant, monochromatic ensemble.
- Peach and charcoal grey for a chic, urban twist.
- Peach and coral for a playful, tonal blend that’s full of energy.
Designing With Peach Color Shades
When using a peach color for interior design or for any design for that matter, it can work as both the main background color and as an accent color. The warm, happy, safe, and inviting color can be a great addition to most rooms in the home as it can be used in the same way neutral colors are.
Shades of peach can work nicely painted on walls as you bring in other colors to create a harmonious look. Peach can also work wonderfully as an accent wall, along with white, and do not forget you can bring in peach colors through accessories like cushions, drapes, furniture, and other items. A gray and white background should work perfectly with peach accents.
Peach, cream, and gold create a beautiful and romantic color palette, which is a favorite for weddings. You can also combine these colors to work in a room, maybe considering some blues and greens that go well with peach.
