Step 1: Draw the Main Body of Your Dinosaur 

Begin the tutorial on how to draw a T-Rex, by drawing a slightly tilted oval shape in the center of your drawing page. Besides this oval, draw a second slightly tilted oval. These will represent the body and head of your dinosaur.

Step 2: Draw the Tail on Your T-Rex Drawing 

On the left end of your T-Rex drawing, draw a wide to narrow curving tail on your T-Rex.

Step 3: Outline the Body and Head 

Make use of the previously drawn construction lines to aid you in outlining a more realistic head and upper body for your T-Rex drawing. The head should like rigged and roughly outlined, while the body should look less rough.

Step 4: Draw the Legs of Your T-Rex Sketch 

Begin by drawing the first leg, on the left side of your T-Rex body, by drawing a narrow oval shape attached to the main body. Draw the second part of the leg as a smaller oval shape. Complete this step, by drawing the second leg further away to the right side.

Step 5: Outline the Legs and Lower Body 

Use the previously drawn construction lines to aid you in outlining more realistic-looking T-rex legs. Each foot should have the visible claws extended out.

Step 6: Draw the Hands 

In this step, draw the first hand overlapping the main body. Complete this step by drawing a second partially visible hand, from the opposite side of the main body, extending out.

Step 7: Outline the Mouth to Your T-Rex Sketch 

Draw the curving, sharp end to the top of the mouth and a smoother end to the bottom of the mouth.  The lines within the mouth should be drawn roughly.

Step 8: Draw the Teeth 

Within the mouth, draw teeth with sharp edges on the top and bottom of the mouth. Between this draw the tongue. On the face draw a small circle to represent the eye. 

Once completed, erase any visible construction or overlapping lines.

Step 9: Add the First Coat of Color 

Make use of a regular brush and dark green paint, and evenly coat the entirety of your T-Rex drawing.

Step 10: Color the Mouth of Your Dinosaur 

Use the same brush as previously and switch to dark brown paint, and begin to evenly color the mouth of your dinosaur drawing. Continue using a fine brush and yellow paint, and paint in the eye.

Step 11: Color the Teeth 

Use a fine, sharp brush and white paint to fill the teeth of your T-Rex drawing.

Step 12: Add Structure to Your T-Rex Sketch 

Begin by using a small, soft brush and black paint, and add shading along the edges of the head, body, and legs. Repeat this step using a fine brush and dark brown and navy blue paints, and add fine structure lines. Complete this step by painting the under-belly area of the T-rex with light mustard yellow paint.

Step 13: Texture Your T-Rex Drawing 

Use the same brush as previously and light blue paint, and dab spots along the tail leading onto the main body, outer area of the legs, and onto the head. Repeat this step using a pattern brush or rough brush to dab spots in between the first texture coat using a darker shade of blue. Continue this process using lighter green, white, and tan paints. 

Note! Do this process in layers to create a textured-looking color coat leading from the tail to the head and face of your dinosaur drawing.

Step 14: Texture the Bottom Half 

Repeat the previous step using a rough texture brush and a combination of yellow, tan, and olive green paint, and dab along the bottom half of the body of your dinosaur drawing leading to the bottom half of the head and face.

Step 15: Add Texture to the Legs on Your T-Rex Drawing 

Repeat the same process done in step 14, however, use a combination of light blue, tan, white, and black paints. Complete the step by adding a textured pattern along the bottom half of the tail, using tan paint, and add a pattern to the bottom half of the body, using brown paint.

Step 16: Highlight the Body 

Before we begin to add highlights, select a fine, sharp brush and black paint, and add fine ridged lines along the top end of the body leading from the tail to the head. These will represent the ridged scale-like creases of the body of the T-rex. Along the darkened lines painted, use white paint to highlight these areas.

Step 17: Define the Legs on Your T-Rex Sketch 

Use the same paintbrush as previously and black paint, and define the structure and creases of each leg. Repeat the step using white and tan paint to increase the highlights. Complete the step with a fine, sharp brush and black paint to fill the claws. Switch to white paint for a soft highlight on the claws.

Step 18: Define the Mouth 

Select a soft brush and dark red paint, and softly color the tongue and upper mouth. Repeat using black paint to add shading to the mouth. Switch to a fine brush and white paint, and add highlights to the tongue. 

Complete the step using a fine brush and black paint to fill the pupil. Switch to white paint and add a soft shimmer to each eye.

Step 19: Color Blend the Teeth 

Use a soft brush and yellow paint to softly discolor the teeth on the outer areas. Repeat using a combination of gray, tan, brown, and light red paint.

Step 20: Add a Ground Shadow to Your Dinosaur Drawing 

Using the same brush as previously, add shading beneath the feet of your dinosaur drawing. Complete this step with a blending brush to soften and spread the edges of the shadow.
