Easy Color by Number (12–24 Areas)

Maple Leaf with Veins as Shapes (12 Areas)

Large maple leaf with five lobes, vein lines splitting it into sections, and a stem
A single large maple leaf with five pointed lobes and a thick stem. Curved vein lines from the center split it into big, open sections, and two arcs cross the background at top and bottom. The wide sections suit warm reds, oranges and yellows, and make this an easy sheet for beginners.

Pumpkin with a Curly Vine and Leaf (12 Areas)

Large pumpkin with five ribs, a curly vine, one leaf and wavy background lines
A plump pumpkin seen from the front, split into five tall ribbed sections, with a short stem, a spiral tendril on the left and a single lobed leaf on the right. Two wavy lines cut across the background behind it. The wide center rib is the biggest open area, and a pumpkin like this works well in orange with a green leaf and vine.

Squirrel Hugging a Big Acorn (12 Areas)

Smiling squirrel with a curled tail holding a large acorn in front of rolling hills
A sitting squirrel with a big curled tail holds an oversized acorn against its belly. It has two pointed ears, dot eyes and a small smile, and two gentle hills curve behind it. The tail splits into a few broad bands, so the shapes stay large and easy to fill on this color by number sheet.

Open Umbrella Under a Rain Cloud (13 Areas)

Line drawing of an open umbrella with a hook handle, a cloud above, four raindrops and a hill
A big umbrella with four scalloped panels sits under a puffy cloud, with four teardrop-shaped raindrops falling around it. The hooked handle rests on a curved strip of ground. The panels and drops are large, so this color by number sheet is easy to fill, and the four panels would look good in alternating autumn shades.

Spotted Toadstool Pair in Grass (14 Areas)

Two spotted toadstools with three round dots each on grassy hills under a wavy sky band
Two toadstools stand side by side on grassy hills, a tall one on the left and a smaller one on the right. Each cap carries three round spots, and a wavy band crosses the sky above. The big spots make this an easy color by number sheet with bold, open shapes, and red caps with white spots would suit a classic fly agaric.

Apple with Leaf and Worm (16 Areas)

Large apple with stem, pointed leaf and a cartoon worm, wavy lines behind
A big round apple with a short stem and one pointed leaf, and a smiling worm peeking out on the right side. The worm has a round head with two dot eyes and three body segments. Wavy bands run across the background behind the apple. The large apple body is the biggest open area, and the worm’s small segments are the most detailed part.

Diamond Kite Over Two Hills (16 Areas)

Diamond kite with ribbon tail, sun, two clouds, two trees and hills
A large diamond kite with a cross frame and a wavy ribbon tail with two bows floats above two rolling hills. A round sun with eight short rays, two clouds and two round-topped trees fill the sky and slopes. The four kite sections and the big sky shapes are wide, open areas that suit a color by number sheet with bold, simple shapes.

Polka Dot Rain Boot in a Puddle (17 Areas)

Rain boot with three dots standing in a puddle, with three raindrops and hills behind
A tall rain boot with a folded cuff and three big round dots stands in a wavy, double-edged puddle. Three raindrops fall around it, and two soft hill lines cross the background. The large dots and puddle rings suit blues and a bright yellow boot on this color by number sheet.

Acorn with Segmented Cap (19 Areas)

Large acorn with stem, five-scale cap and pointed nut on curved background bands
A big acorn seen from the front, with a short curved stem and a cap split into five rounded scales above a smooth, pointed nut. Four sweeping bands run behind it across the background. The tall center panel of the nut is the largest open area on the page, so it suits a smooth brown or golden blend.

Hedgehog with Autumn Leaf on Its Back (19 Areas)

Smiling hedgehog with banded spines, a big leaf on its back, a round sun and hills
A smiling hedgehog walks to the right with a large leaf resting on its back. Its spines are drawn as six curved bands, and a round sun and rolling hills sit behind it. The bold, open shapes make this an easy sheet, and a leaf in orange or red would stand out against brown spines.

Sleeping fox curled up with a zigzag tail tip, surrounded by two maple and two oak leaves
A fox sleeps curled in a tight round shape, nose tucked against its front paw, with closed eyes and two pointed ears. The bushy tail has a zigzag white tip, and two maple and two oak leaves fill the corners around a curved hill line. The big body and tail areas make this color by number sheet easy to fill, and orange with a cream tail tip suits the fox.

Striped Sweater and Tea Mug (24 Areas)

Striped long-sleeve sweater on a table with a tea mug behind it
A long-sleeved striped sweater lies flat on a table, with a round ribbed neckline and a ribbed hem. A tall mug with a looped handle stands behind the shoulder, and a single table line runs across the background. Every stripe is a wide band, so the sheet has big, open areas and could take warm autumn shades in alternating colors.

Medium Color by Number (27–44 Areas)

Corn Cob with Husk Leaves (27 Areas)

Corn cob with rounded kernels, two husk leaves, a short stem and hill lines behind
Corn Cob with Husk Leaves: this upright cob has rounded kernels in rows of three, and two curved husk leaves frame its lower half above a short stem. Two wide hill lines cross the background. Tractor Beside Three Pumpkins (27 Areas)

Tractor on a hill with a cloud and three ribbed pumpkins in front
A side-view tractor with a square cab, a big rear wheel and a small front wheel stands on a rolling hill under a single cloud. Three ribbed pumpkins with curled stems sit in a row along the bottom. Boy Leaping Over a Pile of Maple Leaves (28 Areas)

Smiling boy in mittens jumping above six maple leaves, with clouds, a sun and a hill
A laughing boy with both arms raised, wearing mittens, a sweater and boots, jumps over six large maple leaves arranged in two rows. Clouds, a round sun and a low hill fill the background. The wide leaf shapes and the mittens are open areas, so this color by number sheet stays easy to fill.

Squirrel Parent and Baby in a Tree Hollow (28 Areas)

Two squirrels peeking out of a tree hollow with three leaves, bushes and hills
Inside a large oval hollow in a tree trunk, a big squirrel with a curled tail sits beside a smaller baby, and both rest their paws on the lower edge. Three big leaves, two small bushes and rolling hill lines surround the trunk. The tail and the trunk make large areas for brown shades, and this color by number sheet has mostly wide, open shapes.

Birdhouse on a Post with Four Falling Leaves (28 Areas)

Birdhouse on a post with round hole, four falling leaves, hills, bushes and clouds
A wooden birdhouse with a two-panel gabled roof, a round entrance hole and a small perch sits on a tall post. Four large leaves drift past, with rolling hills, bushes and puffy clouds behind. The roof panels, the front wall and the leaves are big, open shapes, so this sheet works well as a bold, easy color by number page.

Spotted Fawn Between Two Autumn Trees (30 Areas)

Spotted fawn with antlers between two round trees, bushes and rolling ground lines
A young deer with small forked antlers stands in side view, its head turned toward the left. Three round spots mark its body. Two cloud-shaped treetops, two bushes and curved ground lines fill the background. Brown tones for the fawn and orange or red crowns for the trees would suit this color by number sheet.

Wheelbarrow Full of Pumpkins (34 Areas)

Wheelbarrow with three ribbed pumpkins, a round wheel, two clouds and rolling hills
Three ribbed pumpkins with curved stems fill a wheelbarrow that has a big round wheel and two handles. Two puffy clouds and several rolling field lines make up the background. Basket with pumpkin, carrot, eggplant and two apples on a tiled floor

Apple Tree with Basket and Ladder (36 Areas)

Apple tree with six apples, a ladder, a basket, sun, clouds and hills
Six apples with leaves hang in a round, cloud-shaped treetop. A wooden ladder leans on the trunk, and a slatted basket with an arched handle sits in the grass below, with a sun and two clouds above and rolling hills behind. The apples are large, open shapes, and the treetop would take a few shades of green and orange on this color by number sheet.

Park Bench by the Lake with Fallen Leaves (36 Areas)

Park bench by a lake with two trees, hills, sun and three fallen leaves
A wooden park bench with a slatted backrest sits in front of a lake, with rolling hills, a round sun and two round-crowned trees behind it. Three fallen leaves lie in the grass: a maple leaf, an oak leaf and a smooth rounded leaf. The large tree on the left has a forked trunk, so it makes a good place for several shades of orange and brown on a color by number sheet.

Gambrel Barn with Hay Bales and Three Leaves (39 Areas)

Barn with round window and X doors, two hay bales, and oak, maple and round leaves
A red-barn-style color by number scene: a gambrel-roof barn with a round cross-pane window and double X-braced doors, two strapped hay bales beside it, and rolling hills with bushes behind. An oak, a maple and a rounded leaf fill the foreground. The barn’s roof panels and door braces are good places for a darker shade of red.

Smiling Scarecrow with Pumpkin (41 Areas)

Scarecrow with hat and patched jacket on a post, a sun, hills and a ribbed pumpkin
A scarecrow with a pointed hat and a smiling face stands on a wooden post with its arms spread wide. It wears a jacket with three square patch pockets and cuffed trousers, with a big sun above, rolling field lines behind and a ribbed pumpkin at its feet. Because the jacket, hat and pumpkin are large areas, this color by number sheet is easy to fill, and the patches could each get their own shade.

Fox and Rabbit on a Forest Path (41 Areas)

Fox and rabbit on a winding path with three trees, bushes and four fallen leaves
A sitting fox with a big bushy tail and a small rabbit look at each other beside a winding path. Three round-crowned trees, bushes and rolling hills fill the background, and four fallen leaves lie in front. The fox’s tail has a zigzag tip, and orange for the fox with a gray rabbit would make a good color by number pairing.

Boy Picking Apples Beside a Big Apple Tree (42 Areas)

Boy holding an apple next to an apple tree, a basket of apples, sun, clouds and hills
A smiling boy in a short-sleeved shirt and shorts holds up one apple beside a large tree with a cloud-shaped crown. Five more apples hang in the branches, three apples sit in a basket with a curved handle, and a sun, three clouds and rolling hills fill the background. Red apples against a green crown would make a strong color by number contrast.

Harvest Lanterns, Pumpkins and Apple Basket (44 Areas)

Three hanging lanterns above two ribbed pumpkins and a basket of four apples on a hill
Three round paper lanterns, each with two bands, hang from a curved string above a hilltop. Below them, two ribbed pumpkins flank a hooped basket holding four apples with stems. The wide lantern bands and pumpkin ribs are large, open shapes, so this sheet is easy to color. Orange lanterns and red apples would stand out well.

Hard Color by Number (65–109 Areas)

Kids in Raincoats Splashing Under Umbrellas (65 Areas)

Boy and girl with umbrellas, raincoats and boots in puddles in front of a house
A boy and a girl in hooded raincoats and rubber boots walk through puddles, each holding an umbrella with a hooked handle. Behind them stand a small house with a chimney, a four-pane window, a low brick wall and rounded bushes, with three raindrops above. The two big umbrella canopies are split into wide panels, so they make a good starting point for a color by number sheet.

Farm Market Stand with Pumpkins and Apples (109 Areas)

Market stand with a striped awning, crates of pumpkins and apples, a fence, hills and a barn with silo
Under a striped awning with a scalloped edge, one wooden crate holds three ribbed pumpkins and another holds five apples with leaves. Behind them a fence, rolling hills and a red-barn-style farm with a silo fill the view. This color by number sheet has many small areas, so it suits older kids. The striped awning works well in two alternating colors.

Why Color by Number Is Good for Kids

Color by number looks like a simple coloring page, but it asks a child to do several things at once. They read a number, find the matching crayon in the key, locate the right area, and fill it in. Fall is a great season for it, because the pictures are full of warm colors that kids already know from outdoors. The season begins around September 22 or 23, when day and night are about equal in length, and a few weeks later the neighborhood looks like a coloring page itself.

Numbers and Colors Working Together

Every area on the worksheet carries a number, and the color key at the bottom shows a colored dot with the same number inside. Children learn to match the two without any pressure, which builds number recognition in a way that feels like play. Matching a number to a color also trains careful looking. A child has to check the key, remember the color, and find the right spot on the picture.

The colors themselves tell a small story about autumn. Deciduous trees change color because the green chlorophyll in their leaves breaks down, and the yellow and red pigments underneath become visible. When your child colors a maple leaf with yellows and reds, you can mention that those colors were hiding in the leaf all summer. The harvest scenes work the same way, with apples, pumpkins, and corn each getting their own familiar shades.

Pencil Control in Small Spaces

Each numbered area is a small, clearly outlined shape. Filling it in without crossing the lines takes steady hand movements, a relaxed grip, and a good sense of where the edge is. That is exactly the kind of fine motor practice that supports handwriting later on. Smaller areas ask for more control, so the harder levels give older children a real challenge, while the larger shapes on the easy sheets are forgiving for little hands.

Patience and Finishing What You Start

A color by number picture does not reveal itself until most of the areas are filled. That small delay teaches patience. Kids learn to work through a sheet step by step, and the payoff at the end is a finished autumn scene they can hang on the fridge. Because page 2 of every PDF shows the solution, a child can also compare their work with the finished picture and feel proud of how close it came.

Which Level Is Right for Your Child?

We sorted the worksheets by the number of areas in the picture. More areas means smaller shapes and more time at the table, so the level you choose depends on your child’s age and experience. These are guidelines, and you know your child best.

Easy Color by Number (12 to 24 Areas). These sheets have big shapes and a short session time. They suit preschoolers and kindergartners who are just learning to match numbers and colors, and they also work well for any child who wants a quick, relaxed activity.

Medium Color by Number (27 to 44 Areas). The pictures contain more detail and smaller areas, so they take longer. They are a good fit for early elementary students who read numbers confidently and can stay with one page for a while.

Hard Color by Number (65 to 109 Areas). These worksheets are detailed and call for focus and a steady hand. Older kids, teens, and adults who enjoy a calm, absorbing project will like them. Plan for more than one sitting if you want a neat result.

If you are unsure, start with an easy sheet and see how it goes. A child who finishes it happily and asks for another is usually ready to move up a level.

Tips for Printing and Coloring

Paper. Regular printer paper works fine. If your child presses hard or likes to layer color, slightly heavier paper holds up better and keeps crayon from showing through to the table.

Print settings. Each PDF has two pages, so choose the pages you need. Print page 1 for the worksheet and keep page 2 for checking the solution. Set the scale to fit the page, and the sheet will fit both A4 and US Letter paper without cutting off the color key at the bottom.

Black and white is fine. Page 1 does not need a color printer. The numbers, outlines, and color key dots are all easy to read in black and white, so you can save color ink for the solution page if you want to print it at all.

Colored pencils or crayons. Crayons are great for younger children and large areas. Colored pencils give more control and suit the medium and hard sheets, where the shapes are smaller. Keep the tips sharp for the detailed pictures.

Light colors first. Start with the lightest colors, such as yellow, light orange, and pale green, and finish with the darkest ones. Light colors are hard to cover with dark ones, and this order also keeps dark pigment from smudging into the light areas.

Work by color. Many kids like to pick one crayon and fill in every area with that number before moving on. It saves swapping crayons and makes it easy to spot any area that was missed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these fall color by number worksheets really free?

Yes. Every worksheet on this page is free to download and print for personal and classroom use. Click a picture to open its PDF, then print it as often as you like.

What age are they for?

There is a level for almost every age. Preschoolers and kindergartners usually do best with the easy sheets, early elementary students can try the medium level, and older kids and adults can take on the hard sheets. Let your child’s comfort with numbers and small shapes guide the choice.

How many colors do I need?

It depends on the picture. The color key at the bottom of each worksheet lists every color you need, shown as a colored dot with its number inside. Check the key before you start and gather those crayons or pencils so you are not searching in the middle of the page.

Where is the solution?

The solution is on page 2 of the PDF. Page 1 is the worksheet, and page 2 is the finished, colored picture. You can use it to check your work, to help a child who is stuck, or to show what the final result will look like.

Can I use them in the classroom?

Absolutely. Teachers can print the sheets for a fall unit, a quiet-time activity, a substitute plan, or a harvest or Halloween party station. Because the levels are sorted by number of areas, you can hand out different difficulty levels to match the range in your class. Printing only page 1 keeps the solution out of sight until you are ready for it.

Should I use markers or pencils?

Both can work, but crayons and colored pencils are the safer choice. Markers can bleed through thin paper and may blur the numbers, which makes later areas harder to read. If your child loves markers, print on heavier paper and place a spare sheet underneath to protect the table.
