All About Bowser

The Koopa King Steps Onto the Screen

Bowser first appeared in 1985 in Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System. At the end of every world he waited in his castle, and players had to get past him to move on. He was created at Nintendo in the circle around Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario. Super Mario Bros. became one of the best-selling video games ever, which helped make Bowser known all over the world.

Bowser is the king of the Koopas, a turtle species in Mario’s world. In Japan the character is called Koopa, and Bowser is the name he received for the West. That is why you may hear both names for the same big fellow.

Bowser’s Look and His Family

Bowser is easy to recognize and fun to draw. He is big and heavy, walks upright, and carries a spiky shell on his back. He has an orange-red mane, two horns, spiked bands on his neck and arms, and a strong tail. In the games his shell is usually green and his mane red-orange, but on these pages he is more grumpy-friendly than scary.

Bowser Jr. is much smaller and shows up as a child, not as a tiny copy of his dad. He has a round head with short little horns and a bib with a painted mouth. He arrived in 2002 in Super Mario Sunshine for the GameCube. Long before him came the Koopalings, seven more young Koopas who appeared in 1988 in Super Mario Bros. 3.

Friends, Rivals, and the Movie

Bowser is not only a rival. In Mario Kart, Mario Party, and the sports games he drives, plays, and celebrates right alongside everyone else. Princess Peach rules the Mushroom Kingdom, and in early English versions she was called Princess Toadstool. Mario is a plumber with a brother named Luigi. In The Super Mario Bros. Movie from 2023, Jack Black spoke Bowser and sang the piano song “Peaches” for him.

These sheets are fan art, drawn in our own line rather than copied from official artwork. Mario, Peach, and Bowser are friendly here, and the scenes are everyday ones: playing, crafting, sports, and nature, with no fighting.

How to Print and Color These Pages

Each sheet opens as a PDF sized for A4 paper. On a home printer, choose “Actual size” or “100%” so the lines stay crisp. If you use US Letter paper, choose “Fit to page” and nothing will be cut off at the edges.

Plain printer paper works well for crayons and colored pencils. If you plan to use markers, watercolors, or paint, print on heavier paper, such as light cardstock, so the color does not soak through. Black and white mode with the quality set to normal is enough, and it saves ink.

Choosing a sheet by age makes coloring more fun and less frustrating:

  • Ages 3 to 5: Pick the very easy pages with large, simple shapes. Chunky crayons are ideal, and nobody needs to stay inside the lines.
  • Ages 6 to 9: The medium pages with Bowser Jr., Mario, and Peach suit this group. Colored pencils and thin markers help with small areas like the spiked bands.
  • Ages 10 and up, and adults: Try the detailed scenes such as the castle hall, the stone steps with the lantern, or the flying airship. Fine liners, gel pens, and shading with pencils work nicely here.

What to Do With Finished Pages

  • Make a castle gallery. Hang the finished sheets in a row on a wall or hallway, with the throne scene in the middle like a royal portrait.
  • Create a greeting card. Fold a colored page in half, add a message inside, and send it to a friend who loves the Mario games.
  • Build a story. Put several pages in order and let your child tell what happens from the rampart to the throne. Staple them together for a homemade picture book.
  • Decorate for a party. Use the pages as table mats, place cards, or a banner at a game-night or birthday party.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these Bowser coloring pages really free?

Yes. All 40 sheets are free to download and print for personal use at home. Click the picture of the page you want, and the PDF opens right away.

What age are the pages for?

There is something for nearly everyone. Very easy sheets with big shapes suit preschoolers, medium pages fit early school years, and the detailed scenes keep older kids and adults busy for a long time. Look at the picture first, and you will see quickly how much detail it has.

Which colors are correct for Bowser?

In the games Bowser usually has a green shell, an orange-red mane, light horns, and yellowish skin. But there is no wrong answer. A purple shell, a blue mane, or a rainbow tail is just as good, and many children enjoy inventing a Bowser of their own.

Can I use the pages in a classroom?

Yes. Teachers and group leaders are welcome to print copies for their class, club, or after-school program. The scenes are peaceful and everyday, which makes them suitable for a quiet activity, a rainy-day break, or a reward after a lesson. Please link to this page instead of reposting the files elsewhere.

Are these official Nintendo drawings?

No. These are fan drawings made in our own style, and they are not copies of any official artwork. Bowser, Mario, Princess Peach, and the other characters belong to Nintendo, and we made the sheets as a friendly tribute for coloring fun.

How do I print the pages without cutting off the edges?

Open the PDF and choose “Actual size” for A4 paper. For US Letter paper, choose “Fit to page” in the print dialog. If your printer still trims the border, try a preview first to check that the whole picture fits.
