What are Avengers?
The Avengers is a fictional team of superheroes that appears in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The team made its debut in “The Avengers #1,” which was released in September 1963, and was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby. The Avengers are renowned for their battle cry, “Avengers Assemble!”, and are known for their motto of fighting “the foes no single superhero can withstand.”
The original comic book series features a team that includes iconic characters such as Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, Ant-Man, and the Wasp. Over time, the roster has expanded to include a wide variety of superheroes from the Marvel Universe, such as Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Vision, and many others.
The Avengers team is characterized by its diverse members, each bringing their unique abilities, personalities, and backgrounds to the group. They often face off against powerful villains and threats that require a combined effort to overcome, including extraterrestrial invaders, evil gods, and tyrannical supervillains.
The popularity of The Avengers has transcended comic books, leading to a range of adaptations across various media. This includes animated television series, video games, and a highly successful film franchise known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The MCU has produced several Avengers films, including “The Avengers” (2012), “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015), “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018), and “Avengers: Endgame” (2019), which have collectively brought the team to a global audience and have become some of the highest-grossing films of all time.
