One of the most significant criticisms made regarding the structure is its impact on the Hudson River shoreline.

Critics claim that the structure and the Hudson Yards construction as a whole have obstructed public access to the riverfront and produced an “urban canyon” effect, in which tall buildings prevent views and sunshine from reaching street level. Another source of disagreement is the building’s position within the Hudson Yards development. Some believe that the project is detached from the city’s other neighborhoods and favors the interests of rich people and companies rather than the larger community. The design of the tower has also been questioned, with some claiming that it is unimaginative, impersonal, and devoid of architectural individuality.

It is the Western Hemisphere’s second-tallest outdoor viewing platform and New York City’s second-highest observation deck.
